SkyCT uses radio waves to measure the lower ionosphere, a region that sits between roughly 60 and 90 km up. It matters for navigation, over-the-horizon communication, and space weather, and almost nothing else can see it.
What we do

Tomographic imaging
Combining many radio paths into a picture of electron density, rather than a single number averaged over a whole propagation path.
Sensor hardware
Low frequency receivers built for long unattended deployments, with timing good enough to make the phase measurements useful.
Data and analysis
Processing pipelines that turn raw waveforms into ionospheric products on a timescale that is actually useful to the end user.

Use the transmitters already there
A global network of navigation and timing transmitters is already illuminating the ionosphere around the clock. We listen rather than transmit.
Measure, do not model
Empirical ionospheric models are useful, but they are averages. Our aim is to report what the ionosphere is doing right now, over a specific place.
Ship instruments, not papers
The science is well established. The gap is turning it into something a customer can install, operate, and depend on.

Placeholder text. SkyCT grew out of years of low frequency radio research, and works on making measurements of the D-region ionosphere routine instead of experimental.
This page is a stub so there is something at the domain while the real site gets written. Everything here is editable, and the structure is deliberately simple: one HTML file, no build step, no framework.
